CHAPTER 19

I threw the car in gear and sped off in the direction of the nearest hospital. I was going to finish this if it took my last breath. We pulled into the Memorial Hospital parking lot just in time to see Dr. Malokai speed away. She wasn’t staying with Aster? Either he was dead or she was hell bent on finding us. I parked the car and me and Amy ran into the emergency room entrance. I ran up to the orderly’s desk.
“Ma’am is Adrian Aster at this hospital? I am his daughter I heard he had been shot I came her as fast as I could.” I said this as frantic as I could.
“Yes he is in the operating room you will have to take a seat.” She pointed towards the chairs.
“Ma’am does he need blood? I am O- you can take my blood and give it to him.” I said.
“Nurse! Take this woman back to phlebotomy and get her blood. Her father is in the OR with a gun shot wound.” The nurse grabbed my arm and I motioned for Amy to come with.
“Thank you ma’am thank you!” We scuttled to phlebotomy and I answered all the woman’s questions and she prepped me. It took only about fifteen minutes for them to secure a pint. The nurse informed me that I could give her no more because it was too dangerous. She handed the pint to the nurse and had her rush it to the OR. The nurse then urged me to go and get something to eat as soon as possible. They would be able to give me news when I came back.
Amy and I walked out of the hospital to the car and got in. I made her drive.
“Where are we going?” She asked.
“We need to go to the hotel and get my truck it has everything loaded inside and then we need to drive till morning. Once it is day we can find a bank, cash out my account and then go from there.”
“Franky?” Amy said quietly.
“What?” I said sleepily.
“What if they give your blood to the wrong person?” She asked slowly.
“They won’t I am lucky remember?”
I fell asleep after that and woke up in the passengers seat of my truck. The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon. I straightened in the passenger seat.
“How long have we been driving?” I ask groggily.
“Almost thirty two hours.” Amy replied. I sat up straight.
“What? Why didn’t you wake me? Have you been driving all this time?” I said almost fearful.
“No I pulled over and slept for a few hours. We left the city about forty eight hours ago.” She looked me over out the corner of her eye making sure I was okay.
“Which way did you head?” I asked.
“South. I figured when you woke up we would stop at the bank like you said and then cross stop in Texas right before the border. We could probably charter a plane from there to where ever we want to go. Did you have any place in mind?” She asked me.
“Yea I did. Bermuda. We should go to Bermuda.”
We drove for a few more hours and then stopped at the nearest branch of my bank. I withdrew all of the money from my account which was roughly five hundred thousand dollars. We got held up for a day waiting for the cash to come in.
After that we headed to Texas like Amy said and hired some skuzzy private pilot out of Brownsville to fly us to Bermuda under the guise that we were parachuters looking for a thrill. The two days we had to wait for clearance were the longest of my life. When clearance finally came we flew out towards Bermuda.
As Earl had said would happen that skuzzy plane’s navigational system went haywire and before the plane crashed into the blue ocean Amy and I parachuted out of the plane.
We washed ashore the subtropical Somerset Island and we told them we were shipwrecked with amnesia.
No one knows who we are now. We can do what we please and live out our lives in another country with no worry about what will happen to those around us. Since we arrived here Amy has been having trouble seeing the spirits that haunt the island. She has slept through every night since we have been here.
As for me only time will tell if I am a threat to the world. As for now I enjoy tropical drinks with umbrellas and the local cuisine.
I know they will find us eventually. It is only a matter of time especially if Adelphia and Brent are on their side.
The other day I saw an article online about a prominent business man and founding member of a multibillion dollar research company that lived through a gun shot wound to the heart only to die a dew days later from kidney failure. They called it a misfortunate turn of events.
I do not know what will come from here. I hope to find the remaining members of AGH and erase myself from their databases and memories. I hope to figure out how to rejoin the real world once again.
I hope you find these words and realize that this is not the end of my story but the beginning of my life. The life I was afraid to live. A life of consequence. A life of substance. I am not afraid of what I must do. I do not know who I will become but I know that what I have done and must do are all a part of the rock I must push.
The
End
